What does this mean? The creepiest thing happened.?

My best friend spent the day with his girlfriend for their anniversary today. When they got home, they found a pentagon made of cigarette s with a trail of CD's (he listens to death metal by the way) leading to his room. That's when they also noticed a trail of upside down plastic blue cups (like the ones you drink out of at parties) leading from the kitchen to the bathroom. The night before, he had gotten drunk at a party. And he smokes heavily. This incident scared him so much that he cried; he doesn't cry. So, any ideas to what all this means is greatly appreciated.
